How is a virtual evaluation different from an in-person evaluation?

A virtual evaluation requires specialized training in using each assessment instrument via a platform such as Zoom along with the use of iPads, laptops, and other technology as needed. These methods have been validated in research journals and by major psychological assessment companies such as Pearson. The virtual use of each assessment/test used by Dr. McPherson is approved by the company that makes/sells the test and is research validated. Dr. McPherson is willing to provide you a list of references to support the validity of tele-assessment and its’ equivalency to face-to-face assessment procedures if you are interested. All virtual testing conducted by Dr. McPherson is grounded in and guided by the framework of the American Psychological Association (APA) code of ethics to ensure the valid assessment of all individuals and organizations served, as well as confidentiality and all other applicable ethics. Dr. McPherson’s work is also guided by the general guidelines for practice of telepsychology published by the American Psychological Association. Dr. McPherson is very vigilant about online privacy and security. All videoconferencing is HIPPA and FERPA compliant, uses a private WiFi connection only, utilizes a virtual waiting room for clients with a unique password for each client required to enter a meeting, inactivity time-out functions, and security software on all devices.

Dr. McPherson has been practicing virtually since 2020 but has been using technology in her assessments for many years now. She stays up to date on the highest levels of research regarding equivalence of tele-assessment to face-to-face assessment. Dr. McPherson is happy to address any practical concerns you may have about the virtual assessment process such as how to adapt interpretation of data from tele-assessment for equivalency, how to administer a wide range of assessments via tele-assessment, and how to adapt to the tele-assessment method while maintaining test validity.
